The Sign That Pays for Itself: Why I Added a Book Direct Sign

Every booking through Airbnb or VRBO costs a cut, usually 15 to 20 percent between host and guest service fees combined. A repeat guest who books directly instead saves both of you money and skips the platform entirely.

The problem is nobody asks. Guests don’t know direct booking is even an option unless you tell them, and most hosts don’t want to bring it up in person.

What’s actually on it

A simple “Thinking about coming back?” intro, a bold “Book Direct & Save” headline, and three editable fields for your website, email, and phone number. It does the asking so you don’t have to.

Why it works better at checkout than check-in

Guests are most receptive to booking again right when they’re leaving happy, not when they first arrive. I place mine near the checkout instructions sign, so it’s the last thing they see, not the first.

The math

One repeat direct booking a year covers the cost of the sign roughly a hundred times over. It only has to work once.
